Ode to Flowerless Fields

Fallow ground, yellow withered grass
Naked trees
Snow white flakes, mixed with drops of rain
Why did the petals fall

Sky is blue, Clouds are grey
Where is the balance of green
Splashes of purple, pink, and red
Waiting for fields of flowers

All shades of white

I know black and white is a trend right now but I have never been one to follow trends. I prefer style over trend any day and in my opinion white is quite stylish. White is such a refreshing color and looks great on all skin tones. I think every lady's closet should consist of a few white pieces and if you are like me and like to dress your man then his closet shouldn't shy away from white either. The key is to pick a shade of white that works great with your skin tone. White is great because it can be worn year round. Whether you do winter white or wear it in the summer, white is perfect for all seasons. I have been crushing on white lately.

DIY Vitamin C Serum

With age comes wisdom and wrinkles. Wisdom I welcome, wrinkles... that's another story. Whether you have wrinkles or not now is the perfect time to incorporate something into your regimen to repair or prevent them.

The benefits of using a vitamin C serum far exceed wrinkle busting. Vitamin C increases cellular turnover and production of collagen. Collagen is the key substance that keeps our skin looking young, fresh and tight. It also helps to heal acne scars and brighten skin. Vitamin C is also an antioxidant so it fights free radicals that damage our skin cells.

Sure you can buy Vitamin C serums on the market but they can be quite expensive. Vitamin C serums also oxidize quite rapidly so the longer the shelf life, the less potent the serum is. Because of this I prefer to make my own vitamin C serums.

I make a fresh serum every week and here is my formula / recipe.

What you will need:
  • L-Ascorbic Acid Powder, you can find this at your local health food store or online here
  • 100% pure Vegetable Glycerine, you can find at your local health food store
  • Distilled Water
  • Dark colored glass bottle / serum bottle, preferable with a dropper

Directions:

  • In a small glass mixing bowl add 1tsp of L-Ascorbic Acid Powder, 1tsp of distilled water and 1tsp of vegetable glycerine
  • Mix till L-Ascorbic powder is completely dissolved
  • Pour serum into glass bottle and keep in a cool dry place
  • I use my serum every evening, when I'm not lazy. :)
  • To use wash and/or exfoliate as you normally would, then apply serum, then apply your moisturizer
Tips:

  • Make a fresh batch every week
  • Vitamin C serum works optimally when combined with Vitamin E so I use Rosehip oil right after I use my serum (Rosehip oil is very high in Vitamin E)
  • Don't forget to consume vitamin C-  oranges, tomatoes, red bell peppers, lemons, etc

Journey to my first love

Yes, I have been gone for quite a while but I am back now. My time away from blogging has not been in vain though. I've been thinking.... I started blogging because I wanted to create a platform to share, a platform to learn and grow in all aspects of life, and a platform to be inspired to be the best we can be. The vision was to create a platform for us all to blossom as the flowers that we are. I noticed however that a lot of my posts were not a true representation of what I wanted the blog to portray as a whole. I have spent some time reflecting and I have decided to return to my first love. I am reminded that in all things it is important to remain true to who I am and who I aspire to be... God's flower. . I am really excited about this and I hope you will enjoy Ruvarashe blog even more. So, the blog will include...

Scrumptious Health - you guessed it... healthy, scrumptious recipes
Home Décor - I love interior design and I am sure many of you do as well
Simple Beauty - I will share a lot of simple ways to stay beautiful and take care of our bodies
My Style - but of course... fashion
Giveaways - I am hoping to do at least one giveaway a month. It is more blessed to give than to receive
God's Flower Feature - I want to feature many of the lovely flowers ladies that I meet and have them share some of their tips
Wanderlust - I love to travel so I will talk about random lovely spots
Lovely Things - inspired by all things lovely, every week I will share lovely things that inspired me... quite random

A little recap of some of the things i've been up to-  antiquing, Ruvarashe Vintage Boutique loading, shopping for my hubby, trips to the post office, eating healthy, time with friends and family....

Sweats and Stilettos

I have been bumming outfits these past few days. I am glad the work I do allows me to dress however I desire but there is a limit. Lol.  Based on my previous post, my friend Fadzi even called me a bag lady. (which I actually don't mind) I admire how the women of old would dress up no matter what they were doing or where they were going? They always looked very polished. You can never be overdressed. Don't get me wrong, what we wear is not everything but firstly when you dress better you feel and do better and secondly it gives off an impression that we are capable and take ourselves seriously.
That being said I was planning on wearing my comfy oxfords with this outfit... just running to the post office, but I decided to wear pumps... baby steps. I actually like the slouchy look, also known as the granny look... so a good balance for me would be glam granny. hehehe

Floral Boucle

I have been working on something for the past few months which I will share with you in due time. It was quite a challenge for me because it is something that I have never done before. Through it all I second guessed myself, I procrastinated, I felt discouraged but I thank God for companions who can speak words of encouragement. It is important to have people in our lives who are not afraid to say it like it is... how else would we grow. I finally buckled down, submitted everything to God, then got to work and today I have completed the first stage. (doing my happy dance) This is only the first step but sometimes the first step is the hardest to make. God is so good lovelies!!!

Got black???

I have a new appreciation for black clothing... maybe NY is doing a number on me. Wearing all black can look trés chic as long as it is done in the right way. I would say one of the keys to wearing all black or any monochrome outfit is to play on textures. Layer with different textures to create a chic monochrome look.

Oh Sandy Where Is Your Sting?

Sandy came and went and yet she still remains. To all who were affected by Sandy I pray that you are safe and not downcast. Change comes in different forms but there is always something to gain from change.

My husband and I currently have no power, no water, very bad cell network and limited internet access but in all things we thank God!!! We are reminded of the simple things in life and it is a blessing. We have read a number of books by candlelight, eaten delicious raw food (recipes coming soon), finally put up our picture collage, long talks into the wee hours, meeting our neighbors, experiencing the love and concern of family and friends, I could go on but some things are not meant to be shared.

Take time to walk in the Sunshine

This world is dark and dim and so one must take time to walk in the sunshine. Living in the light is a conscious decision and oh so worth it. Enter a room that is pitch dark, turn on the light, all darkness flees. That is the power of the light. Not only will it cause you to shine and strengthen your bones, but it will cause those around you to shine as well.
