The Most Amazing Experience

Make The Ordinary Come Alive

Do not ask your children
to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable
but it is a way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder
and the marvel in the ordinary.
Show them the joy of tasting
tomatoes, apples and pears.
Show them how to cry
when pets and people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure
in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.

April 4th of 2015 we welcomed our baby Eli Hanani. It has been such a Divine Romance.

He took his First Step Into Eternity at his Dedication 6 months later.

Vintage Lifestyle Magazine Feature

My first magazine feature and I am so elated!!! Yes... I danced around my home like a little girl when I was contacted to do this interview. Vintage Lifestyle Magazine now known as Georgette Magazine is a South African based online magazine inspired by all things vintage. It is such an amazing honor to be featured in not just any magazine but a magazine that I actually love reading. It is such a whimsical magazine and if you haven't been reading it I definitely recommend you start reading it. It is the perfect balance of modern and vintage, how to incorporate vintage ideas, fashion, art, etc into today. I enjoy the fact that Vintage Lifestyle Magazine is very inspiring and at the same time educational. You can travel the world through the eyes of many different people, garner great home décor ideas, enjoy the many different forms of art, and of course, absolutely gorgeous vintage as well as vintage inspired fashion. I did an interview on People & Places and you can read the entire interview here from page 80-87.

Thank you to Nicole Danielle Warr, Founder and Editor at Vintage Lifestyle Magazine and thank you to the entire team!!!

Vintage Wedding Dress Code

My husband and I just got back from Michigan. We were attending one of my longtime friend's wedding. We have been friends since primary school back home in Zimbabwe. We attended the same high school. She was my tennis partner in doubles at high school. We lived in the same area back home. We have so many good memories together. Now she lives in Chicago and I'm in New York... years later and we are still friends. Even if we don't talk for months, whenever we talk it's like we were never apart. It is so important to build solid friendships.

It was such a beautiful wedding and we had so much fun. She looked like a queen in her Nigerian garb and so beautiful in her wedding gown. My heart was so full to see her so happy and I was at peace to see how much her new husband loves her and loves God. What more could you ask for...

This is what I wore to the wedding...

Ode to Flowerless Fields

Fallow ground, yellow withered grass
Naked trees
Snow white flakes, mixed with drops of rain
Why did the petals fall

Sky is blue, Clouds are grey
Where is the balance of green
Splashes of purple, pink, and red
Waiting for fields of flowers

All shades of white

I know black and white is a trend right now but I have never been one to follow trends. I prefer style over trend any day and in my opinion white is quite stylish. White is such a refreshing color and looks great on all skin tones. I think every lady's closet should consist of a few white pieces and if you are like me and like to dress your man then his closet shouldn't shy away from white either. The key is to pick a shade of white that works great with your skin tone. White is great because it can be worn year round. Whether you do winter white or wear it in the summer, white is perfect for all seasons. I have been crushing on white lately.

Black Texture

I fell in love with a vintage textured sweater and that is all...

I find that the key to wearing all black is to include or layer many different textures and fabrics. This helps to create contrast and interest. This sweater is so cosy and perfect for adding contrast to an otherwise simple outfit.

And yes, it is still wintry so layering is still essential... I am ready for Spring.

Journey to my first love

Yes, I have been gone for quite a while but I am back now. My time away from blogging has not been in vain though. I've been thinking.... I started blogging because I wanted to create a platform to share, a platform to learn and grow in all aspects of life, and a platform to be inspired to be the best we can be. The vision was to create a platform for us all to blossom as the flowers that we are. I noticed however that a lot of my posts were not a true representation of what I wanted the blog to portray as a whole. I have spent some time reflecting and I have decided to return to my first love. I am reminded that in all things it is important to remain true to who I am and who I aspire to be... God's flower. . I am really excited about this and I hope you will enjoy Ruvarashe blog even more. So, the blog will include...

Scrumptious Health - you guessed it... healthy, scrumptious recipes
Home Décor - I love interior design and I am sure many of you do as well
Simple Beauty - I will share a lot of simple ways to stay beautiful and take care of our bodies
My Style - but of course... fashion
Giveaways - I am hoping to do at least one giveaway a month. It is more blessed to give than to receive
God's Flower Feature - I want to feature many of the lovely flowers ladies that I meet and have them share some of their tips
Wanderlust - I love to travel so I will talk about random lovely spots
Lovely Things - inspired by all things lovely, every week I will share lovely things that inspired me... quite random

A little recap of some of the things i've been up to-  antiquing, Ruvarashe Vintage Boutique loading, shopping for my hubby, trips to the post office, eating healthy, time with friends and family....

Sweats and Stilettos

I have been bumming outfits these past few days. I am glad the work I do allows me to dress however I desire but there is a limit. Lol.  Based on my previous post, my friend Fadzi even called me a bag lady. (which I actually don't mind) I admire how the women of old would dress up no matter what they were doing or where they were going? They always looked very polished. You can never be overdressed. Don't get me wrong, what we wear is not everything but firstly when you dress better you feel and do better and secondly it gives off an impression that we are capable and take ourselves seriously.
That being said I was planning on wearing my comfy oxfords with this outfit... just running to the post office, but I decided to wear pumps... baby steps. I actually like the slouchy look, also known as the granny look... so a good balance for me would be glam granny. hehehe

Floral Boucle

I have been working on something for the past few months which I will share with you in due time. It was quite a challenge for me because it is something that I have never done before. Through it all I second guessed myself, I procrastinated, I felt discouraged but I thank God for companions who can speak words of encouragement. It is important to have people in our lives who are not afraid to say it like it is... how else would we grow. I finally buckled down, submitted everything to God, then got to work and today I have completed the first stage. (doing my happy dance) This is only the first step but sometimes the first step is the hardest to make. God is so good lovelies!!!
